Tuesday April 8 from Kerrville to Johnson City 71 miles and
Wednesday April 9 from JC to Austin 55 miles. (1700 total now on trip)
The two days continued thru the Hill Country. Once again, lots of sun, moderate gravity and headwinds on Tuesday morning alternating to side winds. 15-25mph.
Leaving Kerrville on a very rural, farm/ranch road. No state designation of any kind, but one of our top rides. Literally running with the cows. Lots of cattle guard crossings. Rumble-rumble.
Went through Fredricksburg, old German settlement. Very busy, tourist area. One note on the way to Johnson City, Gabe and I took a short cut. Saved a few miles and got us to the local Dairy Queen ahead of several of our riders that thought they were ahead of us! Lol. Their expressions...priceless. Good shortcut. Great coolie dough blizzard.
Johnson City was the home of President Lyndon B Johnson, his ranch was nearby. Had cooking/cleaning duties for dinner and breakfast in JC. All seem to survive. Thanks to Nicole's Mom for the apple recipe for B'fast. Yummy.
Ride to Austin brought us back to extreme civilization. Lots of people and people things. Also had one of the steepest, longest 'short' hills of the trip. My gosh it was steep. I looked up once and got dizzy. It was scary steep, took all my strength and concentration in my lowest gear....but, I made it.
Austin is beautiful. Rest day wonderful. Off to LaGrange tomorrow. Over half way, 5 more nights in TX, including tonight. Getting it done!
