Sunday, April 13th. Navasota to Coldspring, TX. 65 miles.
Couple of notes from yesterday. We passed through a little place named Independence that was the early site of Baylor University. Like Wake moved to W-S and Duke moved to Durham, Baylor moved to Waco. Interesting to see the grounds, know the history and see some old structures.
Also, my riding buddy Gabe and myself got busted yesterday! As noted, we had gotten off the map routes when it appeared that more direct ways of arriving were available and perhaps better options. However, yesterday was such an awesome day that when we did get off route it was because we missed a turn. We quickly found a short route back and wouldn't you know that immediately upon intersecting with the route here comes our van and in the eyes if our leader Paul, there were Gabe and Larry again off route! But we were innocent....this time anyway. Turns out Paul had missed the same turn, just turned around and went back. Timing is everything!
Today was a good ride. I don't think that I have had a day where I looked fewer times at the cycle computer than I did today, meaning I was relaxed, enjoying the ride. We traveled into Montgomery County, welcome to MOCO!
The open vistas and ranches gave way to forested areas, like MOCO back home. It also threatened rain all day, some showers and is supposed to hit harder tonight and in the morning.
No more gravity reports. We have bottomed out. Still rolling possibilities but climbing is out for the balance of the trip. Yeah!
Comment of the day: lady at a station in New Waverly tells me, "you sure do have pale legs to be out biking cross country!" Thanks mam, you look good also. Don't you know pale is the new healthy look? I told her that the 50 suntan lotion works!
One more night in TX after tonight. Today's pictures include one of the folks at the cook-off from yesterday. One entering MOCO and a lake we crossed. None of the lady at the station.
