Day Four: Across the Imperial Desert with little Margarine for error

Thursday, March 13. From Brawley to Blythe (91 miles)

This is the ride that has lurked in my mind since I first got the day to day schedule. No doubt that this day would be tough.  Heat? For sure, but how hot. Wind?  For sure in the desert. Not much climbing although we do go several feet below sea level.  I even heard our tour leader saying this one had him laying awake at night. It's just a necessity, you have to get across and there is only so many places to stay.

However, it was beautiful. You will see some of the dunes in attached pictures. Literally, tens of thousands of folks come to this area in the fall and early spring to enjoy this area.

But....it is a lot of miles and while the road was better, it still was 'not smooth'. A slight overcast helped out for
