Day Two: What doesn't kill you makes you stronger? But...

Tuesday March 11

You have heard the old adage, maybe even heard the song. But, how do you know when the threat of being killed has gone and the strengthening occurs. After day two, I am still questionable as to my fate.

Day two: the heat was replaced by cooling HEAD WINDS,  the hills were replaced by ....more hills. Climbed 3699 ft today in 38 miles.

But, day two is done. Was in Alpine, CA last night, in a Boulevard, CA tonight. Yes, these places are on the map.

Interesting detour today.  An auto accident was blocking the road so we hoisted the bikes, thru the fields, over and under a barb wire fence and thru some kind of plant that stings the mess out of you. I had not heard of it, but I know what it is now. Stinging nettle maybe?  I call it something else.

Pretty country, that is when I wasn't staring down at the road so as to avoid seeing the continuous climbs.

The pictures t wanted to post yesterday didn't come thru, so hopefully these from both days will.

These have definitely been two tough days, but they are DONE.

  1. I'm getting really concerned that the only two comments you have had on this blog have been from me and a very short one from your wife. Either you have absolutely no friends; or, folks of our age do not know how to comment. By the way, how long is this ride supposed to take?

  2. Web Md has an article on stinging nettle. Apparently people apply it to their skin for muscle aches and pains. However, the article also says that you should not confuse stinging nettle with white DEAD nettle.

    Good luck with day 3!

  3. Larry, So delighted the weather is clear for the beginning of this adventure. Looking forward to the tales you have to relate. Was it the Yellowstone ride, a bear accompanied you for a while? Glad that you are riding with others; wishing you all the best.
